What we do

We deliver training in:

  • National Certificate qualifications at levels 3 and 4
  • Industry best practice
  • Animal husbandry
  • Stockmanship, dog training and horsemanship
  • General operations
  • Pasture, soil and fertiliser management
  • Planning and infrastructure development
  • Farm management systems
  • Life skills and human resource development
  • IT and farm computer programs.

We install the skills, ethics, knowledge and disciplines that a young person needs in order to succeed in today's agriculture industry.

The Waipaoa training model culture is based around core values of self discipline, team work and friendship. Graduates from our program have a reputation for being well rounded, confident and motivated to achieve at the highest level. "Work Ready" as we see it.

Because our lecture facility and trainee living quarters are based on the station we have the ability to integrate both practical and theoretical components ensuring trainees have access to both in unison. Our trainees study toward National Certificate qualifications while experiencing the annual farm cycle first hand. Feedback from employers, industry representatives and University lecturers indicate that our trainees display an in-depth knowledge of general farm practice for their age.

Our Nationally recognised training initiatives are leading the way in preparing future agricultural leaders.

Personal Development

Trainees are mentored on a daily basis and taught self management, leadership and how to help others. Senior and junior cadets are teamed up and taught how to operate as a unit; this further affirms the importance of role modelling and team work. This initial training is then extended out into the work place and given that our trainees go to work with station staff on a daily basis it isn't long before nerves and anxiety are replaced with the pride and satisfaction of having learned a new skill.

The two year course duration is a huge advantage when focusing on personal development as we have the ability to change habits that have in some cases been ingrained over many years. Our graduates have successfully made personal changes and have left Waipaoa with the confidence and focus to set and achieve goals previously not thought possible.

Life after Waipaoa

Over their two years at Waipaoa, trainees get to meet countless industry representatives and farmers who appreciate their enthusiasm and commitment and as a result offers of support extend beyond their graduation. Waipaoa trust management now has a strong network of contacts throughout New Zealand from large stations to the entire agricultural service industry and Universities. Follow-up and support for our trainees is part of the over all training package.
